Latino Rock Alliance

The Latino Rock Alliance is a group of music industry professionals and active fans of Latino Alternative music formed in Austin, Texas in 1999. The goal of this organization is to help develop Latino Alternative music and artists in Central Texas. We work closely with record labels, artists, and media to accomplish our projects.

The Alliance consists of No Borders TV (381-0089), Spanish Rock Radio (338-9254), La Plaga Producciones (444-7807), www.re-usa.com (210- 342-6964), Monk Audio Engineering (963-1050), and an invaluable cast of friends of Latino Alternative music.

The Latino Rock Alliance has an open door policy to anyone who wants to work with us developing this genre. However, only proven rockeros de corazon, with commitment to the cause, and with a strong sense of Ethics (trajectory is not as important as a clean work history), are admitted as members.

The Latino Rock Alliance has worked with other organizations for the promotion of Latino Alternative artists and showcases. Some of them are: The Austin Chronicle, Austin American Statesman, Tower Records, KOOP, KLBJ (832-4040, ext. 5120), Radio Festival (720 AM, San Antonio), KWBU Radio Free Waco (xaviercampos@hotmail.com), The Austin Music Network, Capzeyez Live, Texas Best-TV, Primetime Tejano, Austin’s Downtown and Arts, The University of Texas, La Prensa, Access magazine, Club en Tu Idioma, Movements Gallery, The Black Cat Lounge (385-6830), Universal Musical Latino (818-972-5673), BMG Latino, Aztlan Records, Pinche Flojo Records, Hollywood Records, Grita Records, Sony Musical Latino, WEA Latina, Direct Events, La Zona Rosa, Club 2000, Opcion Sonica (Mexico), Pub Magazine (California), and many others.

In 1998, there were a total of 4 live Rock en Español shows in Austin. This year, there were 17 of such shows as of the month of October, 14 of them organized by The Latino Rock Alliance since its inception in July 1999.

Artists who have enjoyed our production and promotion services are: Los Skarnales ( Houston, 713- 783-0024), Moscas (Houston, 713-523-4711), de Sangre (Houston, 713-827-8454), Konvulsiones (Houston, 713-224-0370), La Nueva Luz (Laredo ), Zupia (Tamaulipas, 011-87-15-56-46), Seres Ocultos (Houston, 713-534-8477), Fabulosos Cadillac (Argentina), Tierra (California), Stoic Frame (New Mexico, 505-344-2401), Ninos con Bombas (Germany), Los Mocosos (California), Puya (Puerto Rico), Ozomatli (California) among others.

100 videos of 85 different Rockeros Latinos have been shown, songs from 600 albums have been played, 4 CD release parties celebrated, 5 bands in frequent bookings, 5 in town and 10 out of town events covered, 10 live TV presentations in studio, great standing with record labels and related music businesses are just something to show for our work.

Several shows were recommended by the specialized press to whom we feel gratitude. We thank our friends in the media, in record labels, in the audience, and the bands and their managements that come from out of town to support our endeavors - who believe in us as much as we believe in them.

Currently, The Latino Rock Alliance is preparing together with The University of Texas the last two Rock en Español festivals of 1999 and taking a monthly Rock en Español show to the Eastside, specifically, to Plaza Saltillo. We take great pride in attempting the development of a Latino Alter Rock scene in Central Texas. We are excited to see that artists we brought to Austin for the first time are capable of participating in showcases other than the ones we sanction.

We take pride that a Latino Alternative band, de Sangre, has recently been selected out of two hundred bands to represent Texas in the Mars Music Battle of the Bands. We feel excited looking at the ads on the musician referral sections and finding musicians requesting others to start Rock en Español bands (Hey, there is back up for you now).

We look forward to work into the 21st Century with more projects.
